Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
