A person who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two children who were nine and 10.
The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".
She told the court the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained materials including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She said the defendant continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
The prosecutor explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.
She stated the man then played the "candy game" in a area of five children.
