Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a man who discovered a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then found many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.

A high-ranking representative said the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
